Phishing email scam impacting SBR residents

Some SBR residents are receiving phishing emails disguised as event invitations from Punchbowl or other e-vite sites.  The sender appears to be someone they know.  If you open the invitation, you are prompted to enter your email user name and password to accept the invitation.  The website for entering your email credentials is fake and contains malware.  In the case of Yahoo users, the malware changes the filter settings in your email account, sending all incoming email to the trash or archive folders.  In all cases, the malware copies your email and contact information and sends out more phishing emails to your contact list, continuing the attack.

The malware has affected Yahoo and Gmail (Google) users but it's likely that others could be impacted.  If you are affected by this phishing attack or have questions, please contact the club's monitor team at:  monitor_lead@sbrtechnology.club

To prevent issues, do not click links in an email and do not enter your user name or password if prompted in an email.  Only enter your account information on trusted, authentic websites.  And always check that the sender's email address is valid.  See the Eventbrite event website for additional tips.
